Refraction | Part 1 | Darwin's Steroids

19) Upon Further Review

Excerpted from the journal of Dr. Melissa Jorgenthal:

Nearing the end of another year, a good time for reflection.  Looking back it's been a bit of a busy one, the Amsterdam conference, five trips to CDC, the UWIDD meetings, all on top of running the ER (again!) with only the slightest bit of help from that bloody idiot Doug.  I spent last evening paging back through this journal, rather than writing in it, one event in particular caught my eye.  In the middle of the summer there was a terrible auto accident, and in the same evening a young man suffering a severe knife wound was removed from my ER  without so much as a how do you do.   When I tried to find the Doctor who transferred him, the hospital contained no record of his having ever been employed there.  I had quite forgotten about it, as I was called to CDC Colorado for a small scale Hanta outbreak.  Christ that was terrible.  At any rate, it piqued my curiosity when I read the entry last night, so today when I arrived at work, I began a search in the WMA archive, and the old AMA archive through the library of New Congress.  WMA turned up nothing, but the AMA archive had a listing for a Hanso Fook USMC retired.  Deceased. A relic of an entry, going back almost ninety years, almost to the end date of the list.  Service in three wars back in the 20th, retiring after GWII had spiraled out of control, and the entire area had collapsed in on itself.  He had been in a consulting position for the Medical Weapons and Nano-Defense Division when the water riots began, the next entry is a hyperlink to his obituary.  I plan on calling Mr. Suarez tomorrow, he helped so much with the whole Freddy thing...
